Barker’s toasts its success with hat trick

As it celebrates 45 years on the farm, jam maker Barker’s of Geraldine is toasting its success with a trio of top business awards.

Barker’s was delighted to win three awards, including the Supreme title at the South Canterbury Business Awards 2014.

Michael Barker says: “In our 45th year, it is very rewarding to again be recognised in the prestigious South Canterbury Business Awards. The last time we entered these awards was on our 40th Birthday when we also won the Supreme award. This time we did even better, winning the Manufacturing and Primary Produce Award and the Innovation and Technology award.

“This is a huge tribute to our team whose shared culture, energy and vision make us all so proud, each and every day.”

Chief Executive, Justin Riley who accepted the awards, says: “I love the fact we make fabulous food on a corner of the family farm. We are a growing New Zealand business – emerging as leaders in many of our categories, competing with and often beating international brands.”

Beneath the Four Peaks mountains 8km from the town of Geraldine, Barker’s 180 plus team produce their popular jams, chutneys, and fruit syrups, an extensive foodservice range as well as the new special edition Mountain Moonshine hot toddy mixer.

The South Canterbury Business Awards were judged by entrepreneurship expert Dr Leith Oliver, Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce chief executive Peter Townsend, Redesign managing director Jo Pennycuick, and the managing director of 100 per cent Pure New Zealand Honey, Steve Lyttle.
