A Hot Summer of Fundraising

It has been a long hot summer and the 2020 new year kicked off with many events and fundraisers engaging their communities in the outdoors.

A local annual event in Timaru called Paddle for Life, as part of the Pink & Steel Cancer Rehabilitation Trust, raises money for cancer rehabilitation with all funds raised assigned to the local Timaru district. This year almost $20k was raised. The event is held at Caroline Bay and includes company and local teams of four competing in a paddle board relay and other beach competitions.

Te Kawau Swimming Club held a Swim Carnival to help raise funds to save the Rongotea Community Pool. They had almost 60 children competing on the day with many swimmers competing for the first time. Teams came from as far afield as Dannevirke and Wellington too. They tell us, “As a swim club, we will be in direct benefit of the pool upgrade, so our event was a success all round.”

In March, Hornby residents came together for Hello Hornby – Our Community Party In The Park. The purpose of the event was to bring the community together and celebrate all the good of our community in one park. It also included Greater Hornby Residents Baking Competition. For the second year in a row, residents shone with their inner culinary skills. The results of the baking competition and the Barker’s product prizes on offer, were enjoyed by many.

Barker’s were proud to support the Geraldine Multi Challenge, a fun run or bike or walk. The local team challenge was a huge success, it was great to see a few teams of business and family groups out there enjoying the day.

The Eagles Golfing Society of NZ held their Annual Convention and General Meeting in February. The convention was a very successful few days with over 300 people attending from all over NZ. Barker’s Dessert Sauces were delicious spot prizes at the prize giving, the weather was excellent for the golf, and everybody had an enjoyable time.

St Mary’s College in Ponsonby held a Year 13 student breakfast at the start of the school year. The Year 13 breakfast is to inspire and ready the girls for their leadership roles within the school and their communities.  The Woodbury Primary School year got underway with an overnight camp for the Junior School children in the school grounds. “Many thanks to Barker’s for supplying us with such a variety of products, all of which enhanced our barbecue and dessert making.”

Sacred Heart School in Dunedin hold a Monster Garage Sale every year. They tell us that Barker’s Dessert Sauces were early sought after at the chocolate wheel. This year they raised over $7000 which will go towards teacher support, upgrading resources, and playground improvements. Congratulations on your successful fundraiser! St Patrick’s School mega raffle fundraiser raised money for extending and upgrading resources for the children – with a focus on digital technology, arts & culture. They managed to raise $2000 towards their goal, great work!
