Geraldine Community Centre
The Geraldine Community Resource Centre aims to provide for the social needs of people living in the wider Geraldine district. The Geraldine Community Resource Centre was established in 2007 for the purpose of meeting the diverse needs of all people living in the Geraldine community by providing access locally to essential information and services. This centre runs an annual Christmas Tree Project. They encourage local residents and businesses to donate food and/or gifts for local families in need. In 2013 in conjunction with Geraldine Lionesses, they provided gifts and food to 54 local families in need and they anticipate a similar number in 2014. Barker’s assisted by providing jams/chutneys to be added to food packs for families.

WRENS Auckland
Women’s’ Royal New Zealand Naval Service was formed in 1942. It was developed as a force capable of playing a fully effective part in the war effort of the RNZN. War Wrens served with distinction in many arenas of WWII, some so secret it stayed that way for 40 years. Since the war Wrens continued to serve overseas and in various parts of New Zealand, ashore and afloat. By the time the Wrens amalgamated with the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1977, 1655 women had been in the WRNZNS. Barker’s were happy to provide some product to be used as prizes at the 2014 function. 2013 was the 60th Anniversary of the Wrens.

Upper Moutere School Fair
On 1st November Upper Moutere School held their biennial school fair. Barker’s provided a gift basket for use in their silent auction.Their Fair raised just over $15,000 and funds raised will go towards the update and extension of their e-Learning technologies.

Taranaki Safe Families Trust
Is a local family violence network based in New Plymouth. They are a collaboration of 24 member agencies who work throughout the Taranaki region in the field of family violence prevention. On Friday 28th November they ran a White Ribbon Relay for family violence awareness. Barker’s provided a prize pack for each of the members of the winning team in the relay. Lions Club of Ashburton Pakeke Inc.
Barker’s is always delighted to support one of our local area Lion’s Clubs with their fundraising who started promoting their Charity Christmas raffle from late October. All the proceeds of the raffle are returned to the local Ashburton community. In 2013 they raised and distributed over $12,000 to local charities with $4,600 of that coming from the Christmas raffle. The raffle is an important part of their annual fundraising and it is a project in which all of their 53 members are fully involved.
